Arrupe Jesuit High School is thrilled to announce that the Colorado Department of Education has approved and awarded Arrupe Jesuit with the Seal of Biliteracy. This is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our Spanish department, who have worked tirelessly to achieve this milestone.
The Seal of Biliteracy is earned by 12th grade students who demonstrate college-level proficiency in both Spanish and English. By awarding this seal, Arrupe Jesuit joins schools statewide in recognizing and celebrating the linguistic achievements of our students. It serves as a signal to colleges and employers that our graduates possess the valuable skill of biliteracy, opening doors to increased job opportunities, higher earning potential, and stronger connections within their communities.
One of the most significant benefits of the Arrupe Jesuit Seal of Biliteracy is its inclusion on transcripts, enhancing the visibility of our students' bilingual proficiency to prospective colleges and employers. Additionally, it will help our graduates stand out on resumes and in interviews, showcasing their unique and valuable skill set. What's more, earning the seal is entirely free for our students, further underscoring our commitment to providing them with the resources and recognition they deserve.
To qualify for the Colorado Seal of Biliteracy, graduating students must meet specific criteria, including completing all required English Language Arts coursework with a minimum GPA of 3.0, achieving a score of 470 or above on the English section of the SAT or a 3 or above on an AP English exam, and demonstrating literacy in Spanish through the DELE or AP Spanish test.
For seniors eligible for the seal in 2024, instruction on how to complete the award will be provided in class this year. Additionally, juniors and future classes will receive guidance and support from teachers on how to best prepare and position themselves to earn this prestigious recognition.
The AJHS Seal of Biliteracy is not just a symbol of academic achievement; it is a testament to the dedication, perseverance, and cultural richness of our students. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all those who have worked diligently to make this achievement possible, and we look forward to seeing our students continue to thrive as bilingual leaders in their communities and beyond.
