Arrupe Jesuit Class of 2025 Student Spotlight: Danna Mejia

We’re proud to spotlight Danna Yance Mejia, a senior at Arrupe Jesuit High School whose strength, compassion, and resilience have deeply shaped her time in our community. A graduate of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic STEM School, Danna has gained valuable experience through her Corporate Work Study placements at Stryker, Denver Tech Dentistry, Mile High Early Learning, and Regis University. This fall, she will continue her journey at either Colorado State University or Our Lady of the Lake University.

Q: What’s a moment from your childhood that still shapes how you see the world today?
“My first time going to Mexico when I was six years old really opened my eyes. I saw that not every child had the same opportunities I did. Some kids were already working to help support their families. That moment made me realize how grateful I am to be able to go to school and pursue an education.”

Q: Who or what has been a constant source of strength or inspiration throughout your life?
“My faith has always been my greatest source of strength. I was raised Catholic, and my parents always reminded me that God has everything in His hands. When life feels overwhelming and I do not know where to turn, I turn to Him.”

Q: Looking back, what challenge or turning point has defined your path the most?
“Losing my dad my sophomore year and then my grandpa shortly after was the hardest moment in my life. My dad moved to Mexico, and then a month later my grandpa passed away. That season forced me to grow up quickly and take on more responsibility. It taught me how to be strong even when everything feels uncertain.”

Q: What’s a value or lesson your family has passed down that you carry with you every day?
“My family taught me to never judge someone for what they are going through. You never know what someone might be carrying. That lesson helps me lead with empathy and kindness.”

Q: How has your time at Arrupe helped you better understand who you are and where you come from?
“Kairos. Always Kairos. That experience changed how I see myself and others. It helped me understand what it truly means to be a woman for others and reminded me that no one is perfect, but we all keep getting up and trying.”

Q: What legacy do you hope to leave behind at Arrupe?
“I hope people remember that you should never give up, no matter what your background looks like or what challenges you face. There is always strength in continuing forward.”

Q: If you could describe Arrupe in one word, what would it be?
“Family.”

Throughout her four years at Arrupe, Danna has shown what it means to lead with heart and perseverance. Her story is one of quiet courage and deep faith, and she has left an impression on our community through her kindness, her honesty, and her unwavering belief in the power of showing up for others. As she takes the next step into college, we know she will continue to inspire everyone around her.
