Dear Generals,
Happy feast day! Today we celebrate the feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus. As we look forward to the school year to come, let us call upon St. Ignatius’s intercession and the intercession of all the saints to guide, protect, and inspire our community. Celebrations such as this remind us that not only are we inheritors of the great tradition of Jesuit education, but also that the Spirit which inspired the first Jesuits to found schools continues to form us and guide us. Let us give thanks to God for the many blessings he has bestowed upon our community.
As I wind down my ministry along the US-Mexico border with migrants and refugees, I look with excitement and hope at what God has in store for Arrupe Jesuit High School in the year to come. It is an unexpected blessing to be joining you again, and I am humbled to be invited to serve as the Assistant Principal for Mission. Arrupe had a huge impact on my formation as a Jesuit, and I continue to look back on my three years as Pastoral Director with gratitude.
As a young Jesuit priest, our namesake, Fr. Pedro Arrupe, was in Hiroshima when the atomic bomb was dropped in 1945. His first-hand experience of this horrific event profoundly shaped his perspective on humanity, suffering, and the universal call to service. He guided his novices at that time to care for the wounded in a makeshift clinic at their novitiate, which had been partially destroyed by the blast.
Reflecting on this tragic episode, Fr. Arrupe wrote, "The whole experience made me more deeply aware that my mission as a Jesuit priest was to help individuals to understand the love that God has for them and to strive in every way possible to establish peace in this world."
I can think of no better way to describe the mission of Arrupe Jesuit High School. It is a mission that is not only given to the Jesuits but to every individual in our community; a community founded on the belief that God loves each and every person, regardless of the limitations that society and circumstance place upon them. By upholding the dignity of each individual, we build the Kingdom of God here and now brick by brick.
I come to you as a servant and as a friend, ready to learn from you and listen to your needs. Please know of my prayers for you, and I ask for your prayers for me.

¡Feliz día festivo! Hoy celebramos el día de San Ignacio de Loyola, el fundador de la Compañía de Jesús. Mientras esperamos el próximo año escolar, invoquemos la intercesión de San Ignacio y la intercesión de todos los santos para guiar, proteger e inspirar a nuestra comunidad. Celebraciones como esta nos recuerdan que no solo somos herederos de la gran tradición de la educación jesuita, sino que el Espíritu que inspiró a los primeros jesuitas a fundar escuelas continúa formándonos y guiándonos. Demos gracias a Dios por las muchas bendiciones que ha derramado sobre nuestra comunidad.
A medida de terminar mi ministerio a lo largo de la frontera entre Estados Unidos y México con migrantes y refugiados, miro con entusiasmo y esperanza lo que Dios tiene reservado para la Arrupe Jesuit en el próximo año. Es una bendición inesperada unirme a ustedes nuevamente, y me siento honrado de haber sido invitado a servir como Subdirector de Misión. Arrupe tuvo un gran impacto en mi formación como jesuita, y sigo recordando mis tres años como Director Pastoral con gratitud.
Como joven sacerdote jesuita, nuestro homónimo, el P. Pedro Arrupe estaba en Hiroshima cuando se lanzó la bomba atómica en 1945. Su experiencia de primera mano de este horrible evento moldeó profundamente su perspectiva sobre la humanidad, el sufrimiento y el llamado universal al servicio. Guió a sus novicios en ese momento para que atendieran a los heridos en una clínica improvisada en su noviciado, que había sido parcialmente destruida por la explosión.
Reflexionando sobre esta tragedia, el P. Arrupe escribió: "Toda la experiencia me hizo más profundamente consciente de que mi misión como sacerdote jesuita era ayudar a las personas a comprender el amor que Dios tiene por ellas y luchar de todas las formas posibles para establecer la paz en este mundo".
No puedo pensar en una mejor manera de describir la misión de la Arrupe Jesuit. Es una misión que no solo se le da a los jesuitas sino a cada individuo en nuestra comunidad; una comunidad fundada en la creencia de que Dios ama a todas y cada una de las personas, independientemente de las limitaciones que la sociedad y las circunstancias les impongan. Al defender la dignidad de cada individuo, construimos el Reino de Dios aquí y ahora, ladrillo por ladrillo.
Vengo a ti como servidor y como amigo, dispuesto a aprender de ti y escuchar tus necesidades. Por favor sepa de mis oraciones por usted, y pido sus oraciones por mí.
