Staff Spotlight: Mike Lovinguth

In our latest edition of the Arrupe Jesuit Staff Spotlight, we introduce you to Mike Lovinguth, our dedicated Assistant Principal for Student Services. Mike's journey originates in Ballwin, a town near St. Louis, where he attended St. Louis University High School. Following his passion, Mike pursued his undergraduate degree at Truman State University, where he majored in English & Art. He then continued his educational journey at THE Ohio State University, focusing on Sport Management at the graduate level.

Prior to joining the Arrupe Jesuit community, Mike's career path led him through various roles in the world of sports. From event management internships at Ohio State Athletics to coaching college Ultimate Frisbee tournaments, Mike's journey was shaped by his love for sports and mentoring young minds.  Inspired by the exemplary teachers and mentors he encountered at St. Louis University High School, Mike joined the Alumni Service Corps, a volunteer program that set him on the path to Arrupe Jesuit High School. Drawn by the school's mission of service and social justice, Mike found a home at Arrupe, where he now serves as the Assistant Principal for Student Services.

In his current role, Mike wears many hats, as he works with Athletics, Activities, Pastoral Programs and Retreats, Community Service, mental health initiatives, and the Families Together outreach program. With a decade of service under his belt, Mike's impact on the Arrupe community is immeasurable.

It was during his time as the school's first Athletic Director at Arrupe that Mike discovered his true calling in education, igniting a passion that continues to drive him today. Reflecting on his most cherished memories at Arrupe, Mike recalls his time coaching the Girls' Soccer team. During their initial year, they faced challenges in recruiting enough girls for the team. However, by the time the first group graduated, they had established a JV and they had one of the best seasons in school history. Some of these former team members now hold positions at Arrupe, serve on the board, or now attend games and support the program. Two memorable games stand out to Mike. The first was played on the south side of Sloan's Lake on a freezing Colorado day that transitioned from drizzle to snow. And the other, in Estes Park, where the team encountered a surprise visitor—a curious elk that hung out in the middle of the field.

Throughout his journey, Mike has been guided by the values instilled in him by his parents – kindness, service to others, and perseverance. Their unwavering support has been a constant source of strength, helping Mike navigate life's twists and turns with grace and resilience.

As Mike Lovinguth celebrates a decade of service at Arrupe Jesuit High School, we extend our deepest gratitude for his tireless dedication, compassion, and leadership. His legacy of excellence continues to inspire generations of students, embodying the spirit of Magis in everything he does. Here's to many more years of making a difference and transforming lives at Arrupe!
